On Sunday, I went to Tewkesbury School again to see our double winning U16 Panthers in their league match against Shurdington. This was always going to be a big game with both teams being undefeated within their campaigns so far this season.
Panthers started with the wind against them and knew they needed get an early goal. Their chances came however, they were unable to convert their efforts, similar with this shot going just wide of the post!
With the visitors playing impeccable football and showing the determination, Shurdington went 1-0 up with 12 minutes played. With Panthers feeling like they didn't deserve that, they kept fighting to keep the three points in Tewkesbury.
With Shurdington leading the game 1-0, Panthers having a good opportunity via this free kick in a dangerous position. Panthers needed to convert this chance to be drawing by half time! However the brilliant placed free kick was cleared away to keep the Panthers hoping of getting that equaliser.
As the halftime whistle the Panthers was still down 1-0. With the managers talks given, hoping their words would of given them wisdom to progress and win the game. Panthers started well, now with the wind in their favour they wanted a goal! Three minutes into the second, they got the equaliser and now their minds saying game on!
With now Shurdington wanting revenge to take the lead again, they pressed the panthers within the hope and with 18 minutes in the second half they took an opportunity and snatched another goal.
Now with Panthers now losing again, they knew they needed to raise their game! Now with a corner after a rash clearance from the Shurdington defence, the Panthers knew they were nervous. With the corner taken, Shurdington put the ball in their own net!
With Panthers once again back in the game, Panthers knew they now needed everything. However, with a unhappy Shurdington feeling they didn't deserve that, they came at Panthers again with the Panthers keeper making an unfortunate decision to come off his line the Shurdington attackers, put it past the keeper to make it 3-2 Shurdington.
With Shurdington once again leading and their them feeling like the game is done and Panthers not happy with how they have preformed today. With 2 minutes remaining in the game, a good through ball was played into the danger zone by the Shurdington midfield and they slot it into the net to make it 4-2 Shurdington.
I have to say watching this match this afternoon, shows how competitive it can be in a Sunday league. I still believe in the Panthers to march on and win something this season, and when they go to Shurdington they will be more up for it and want revenge.
